About me

I create contemporary semi-abstract art. Through my painting, I aim to capture how a place or moment feels and that ethereal sense of magic beyond what we can see.  Living in rural Hampshire, the landscape inspires much of my work; gathering interesting compositions and patterns, and noticing shapes within negative space and the alternative views they reveal.    

 

I begin my paintings with loose expressive marks rather than having any planned composition in mind, as I feel that in this way I am free to make more intuitive decisions about how the painting develops - what remains and what is hidden. This process of building layers means the painting can undergo many transformations, which for me this is really important in giving each painting a story of how it came to be, and the glimpses through to the layers below act as windows to its soul.
